     El Monte City School District was recognized as an "Exemplary School District"  by the American Cancer Society for the district's ongoing leadership and effort in promoting Coordinated School Health programs.
     "The school district continues to show continuous support to the American Cancer Society over the years through various collaborations. El Monte City School District has been a leader in LA County for Coordinated School Health and has recently presented the model at the California School Boards Association Wellness Conference," said a representative of the American Cancer Society.
    "The Network for a Healthy California at El Monte City School District has a phenomenal team who is constantly being innovative, engaging and setting high standards for other districts to follow. The district is a great example to their students, parents, staff and community. A huge congratulations to you for being an exemplarily school district," continued the American Cancer Society representative.
     The Coordinated School Health program in El Monte City School District includes efforts in staff wellness, nutrition education, increasing physical activity, parent programs, community involvement, and support services for students and parents.  The eight components of Coordinated School Health are Physical Education, Nutrition Services, staff wellness, health services, counseling and psychological services, safe school environment and Parent & community involvement.  The District continues to increase the awareness of the link between wellness and achievement.
